The *Crude* Reality.
This picture was inspired by the wars that the United States and Great Britain are fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan. The picture shows a double-amputee soldier, who is sitting on a stool made of oil derricks, and an Exxon and Shell gas station label on his uniform. There are techniques like symbolism and labeling in this photo, like the oil derricks and company logos that are used to get the message of the picture across. I can infer from this picture that the wars in Afghanistan are being fought over material things, that the war is not worth all the suffering people, and that the reality is that the war in the middle east is only for the benefit of the oil companies like Shell and Exxon.
The message this picture is trying to send to people is that human lives are lost and compromised over oil.
Some groups like the U.S. military, and the oil companies may disagree with the message portrayed in this picture. Though, the peace makers and the families of the U.S. soldiers, who's lives are always at risk, would stand strongly behind these messages. I'm sure the artist's point of view and feelings towards the messages in this picture are strong, and he fights for the safety of the soldiers by showing the general public what these soldiers really go through. This picture is very persuasive, because it is sad and compelling, and reveals the truth that helps take the concealing curtain off of the U.S. government.
